ENSURING QUALITY 

Thanks to celebrity chefs and Mediterranean diets, British consumers know more about olive oil – and its potential health benefits – than ever before.

Italy is the second largest producer of olive oil in the world and uses the EU’s protected geographical indication (IGP) to demonstrate authenticity and quality. Extra virgin olive oil is sourced from the first mechanical pressing of the fruits without the use of heat or chemical solvents. It is the highest quality of olive oil and governed by strict standards, for example cold press extraction at a temperature of less than 27°C.

 

Meeting Demand

Despite rising prices, the UK is still fifth in terms of European retail sales. And Italian olive oil is a firm favourite with consumers. About a third of olive oil imports come from Italy.
